His Majesty Pays Last Respects

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam paid his last respects to Allahyarham Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Honorary Professor Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al- Sufri bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Umar at Kampung Mabohai, Bandar Seri Begawan, yesterday morning. The National Historian passed away at Raja isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital at seven yesterday morning at the age of 99.

His Majesty performed the jenazah or funeral prayer led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. Allahyarham began serving with the Government of Brunei Darussalam as a Trainee Teacher on the 1st of January 1939 until 31st of December 1946. After retiring from the service, Allahyarham was re-appointed in the service as an Advisor to the Director of the Language and Literature Bureau; and Chairman of the Education Council. Allahyarham then headed the Brunei History Center since its establishment in 1982. Allahyarham was also a member of the councils including the Privy Council and the 'Majlis Mesyuarat Mengangkat Raja' or Succession Council. Allahyarham was bestowed the Manteri Tiga Puluh Dua Title of 'Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan' and promoted to the Manteri Empat title, 'Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Mahajara'. Allahyarham was also bestowed with several State Decorations and Honorary Medals, among them,Darjah Kerabat Seri Utama Yang Amat Dihormati, DK; Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa, Second Class, DSLJ; and Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia Second Class, DPMB. Allahyarham was buried at Tanah Perkuburan Rangas, Bandar Seri Begawan.
