The culture of reading among communities in Brunei Darussalam is growing and improving. The improvement was clear despite the COVID-19 pandemic when all Language and Literature Bureau libraries were closed for several months. Apart from increasing number of visitors to the library, library membership also grew last year with several new normal in place including the online book borrowing.
This was underlined by Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau in an interview with RTB while disseminating information on the Book Bazaar that will take place in Temburong and Belait District this month. He explained that the Language and Literature Bureau is committed to continue the initiatives of producing reading programmes and information literacy through the annual Brunei Book Festival and Book Bazaar.
As a precautionary measure to curb COVID-19 transmission, the Language and Literature Bureau has introduced a new Book Bazaar programme with the concept of greeting the community themed 'Kembara Buku Santuni Masyarakat".
