Rainy Weather until the End of this Week

Brunei Darussalam is in the second phase of the Northeast Monsoon. Relatively, the month of February is categorised as the second driest month due to the lowest amount rainfall compared to other months. However, Dayang Marzeti binti Haji Mahadi, Acting Chief Meteorological Officer, said since the the beginning of the month until the 17th of February, the total amount of rainfall recorded at the Meteorological Observation Station, Brunei International Airport was 204.3 millimetres, which is 20 per cent more than the climate normal for February.

According to Dayang Marzeti, based on the latest ensemble rainfall forecast, Brunei Darussalam is still expected to experience rainfall activities until the end of this week, and the weather condition is expected to improve starting next week. Wind condition can become gusty with wind speed reaching up to 40 kilometres per hour during thundershowers, especially at sea areas. Strong surges from the North-easterly wind over South China Sea is expected to cause in the increase of wave height over Brunei waters. She added that started yesterday, sea condition is at moderate state with wave height of 1.5 meters, and is expected to increase to rough state of 2 metres on Saturday. Rough sea state is dangerous to all small crafts, as well as sea recreational activities and sports.
