The Brunei National Council on Climate Change, BNCC has launched the country's first climate change policy outlining 10 key strategies to transition Brunei Darussalam into a low carbon and climate-resilient nation. The matter was emphasised by the Minister of Development during the Tree Planting ceremony in conjunction with the launching of the Green Protocol yesterday morning at the recreational site under the Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Bridge. According to Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Engineer Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Brunei Darussalam also closed the year by submitting an international pledge to reduce 20 percent of the total greenhouse gas emission from the Business-as-Usual level by 2030 under the Paris Agreement.
The Green Protocol was launched by the Minister of Development and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Awang Haji Mat Sunny bin Haji Md Hussein, the Minister of Energy as Co-Chairmen of BNCC. The event continued with tree plantings by the Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, High Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries. Also present were members of the Legislative Council.
