To alleviate the difficulties shouldered by the poor and destitute in the country, especially those requiring better, comfortable and safe accommodations, various efforts have been implemented by the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB and related government agencies. In this regard, a plaque and certificate presentation for the completion of the Poor and Destitute Housing Aid Project was held for 21 recipient's yesterday morning. The function took place at Dewan Multaqa, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The plaque and certificate presentation was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as the Yang Dipertua of MUIB. The construction cost for the 21 houses is fully funded by the MUIB Tithe Money Collection allocation amounting to 1 million, 9 hundred 77 thousand, 2 hundred 83 dollars and 60 cents. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development and Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The construction of 21 houses under the zakat distribution scheme is hoped to alleviate the burden of the underprivileged and boost their motivation to upgrade their standard of living in the future.
