Discussion Session With Members Of The Legislative Council

The preparation of the Ministry of Home Affairs Strategic Plan Framework 2022 - 2026 was created comprehensively, by taking into account the existing aspirations, initiatives and plans including from Digital Masterplan Economy 2025, Economic Blueprint for Brunei Darussalam as well as the ministries strategic plans. According to the Minister of Home Affairs, it aimed to realise the country's vision, especially in achieving Wawasan Brunei 2035. Speaking during a Muzakarah or Discussion Session between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Members of the Legislative Council, yesterday morning, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Ministr of Home Affairs explained that under the strategic plan framework, the Ministry of Home Affairs will strive to strengthen the effectiveness of law enforcement to improve the level of security and well-being of the public; strengthen the defence and control system of residents, strengthen the Mukim and Village Institutions and improve infrastructure to support the socio-economy. The year 2020, according to Yang Berhormat was a challenging year.

Until now, the country and the world are still facing the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Yang Berhormat, in an effort to maintain public safety, the departments under the Ministry has been selected to be part of the frontliners, namely the National Disaster Management Centre, the Immigration and National Registration Department and the Fire and Rescue Department.

Another projects related to public safety are the Immigration and National Registration System or INRS and National Labour Management System, NLMS, which is being actively implemented by the Immigration and National Registration Department and the Department of Labour, which by will be adopted in the near future. With the existence of the system, it will be able to overcome matters on the entry process of foreign workers and to tackle power abuse by irresponsible parties.

In an effort to foster and create a community that lives in unity and full of care, the Ministry is implementing initiatives to improve the mukim and village institutions, including filling the posts of Mukim penghulus and village chiefs. Taking into account the importance of Penghulus and Village Chiefs as grassroots leaders, the E-Vote Project is hoped to speed up the process of filling the positions of Mukim Penghulu and Village Chief. The project will be implemented in the first quarter of this year. The Ministry of Home Affairs also appreciate the proactive action of several Mukim and Village Consultative Councils for highlighting and appointing the youths as members of the Mukim and Kampung Consultative Council.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is also working towards socio-economic development to revitalise a number of the ministry's assets at the business centre area in the capital and to catalyse the One Village, One Product business. Such discussion is hoped to become a platform to exchange ideas and build constructive views towards improving the quality of service and well-being of the country's citizens and residents.
