Following a number of imported COVID-19 cases from the United Kingdom recently, there has been a concern among the public on the new COVID-19 Variant. According to the Minister of Health, Brunei Darussalam is among the countries with the strictest entry control measures for Brunei Darussalam citizens as well as foreign nationals.
Yang Berhormat said that if compared to other or neighbouring countries, Brunei Darussalam is among the strictest as every person entering the country must be quarantined, regardless if they citizens, permanent residents or expatriates. Those who enter the country are also those on essential travel. Yang Berhormat believes that the country has the strictest control, of which those entering the country must be quarantined upon arrival. This is because, in other countries, travellers entering the country are not required to enter the quarantine area. Their citizens are allowed to undergo quarantine at home while others are quarantined at designated hotels. As Brunei Darussalam still has the strictest control for cross border travel, it is hoped in this way, the country can control the spread of the pandemic including the COVID-19 variant. The quarantine period is still 14 days, especially for travellers for those with numerous community clusters except for Singapore.
