Agreement Signing Ceremony

The project to Design, Build, Operate and Maintain for the Modernisation and Redevelopment of the Muara Fish Landing Complex that will be undertaken by the Muara Port Company, MPC, a government-linked company will introduce modern terminal for unloading fish and enhance efficiency for loading and unloading basic necessities on fishing boats. The public private partnership project between the government and the private sector will bring a number of benefits, and this includes making the complex's work environment safer for all. Yesterday afternoon, an agreement signing ceremony between the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and MPC for the project to Design, Build, Operate and Maintain for the Modernisation and Redevelopment of the Muara Fish Landing Complex took place at The Empire Brunei, Jerudong.

In attendance were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy as Chairman of MPC; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications as Chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam, MPABD Board of Directors.

Earlier, Awang Mohammad Fazilah bin Haji Mohammad Yassin, Chief Operation Officer of MPC in his welcoming remarks said the project development and operation will commence in the early first quarter of next year, and will bring in new economic and social opportunities for the country.

Signing on behalf of the Department of Fisheries was Dayang Noraini binti Haji Anggas, Acting Director of Fisheries. Meanwhile, MPC was represented by its Chief Financial Officer, Lyu Guoli. The signing was witnessed by the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy as Chairman of MPC.

The project will further improve the navigation smoothness and safety for boats entering and exiting the complex and docking at the jetty, as well as increasing the capacity for boat docking. Under the agreement, MPC will provide more efficient services for fish processing activities at the said complex.

The ceremony ran concurrently with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for future collaboration between MPC, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, BIBD and Bank of China Brunei branch.
