The Shell LiveWIRE AgroBIZ 1st cohort, consisting 10 students of the AgroBIZ Paddy Agropreneur Scheme intake have successfully completed their 15-month programme. The programme is part of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) HNTec in Agrotechnology programme specializing in Rice Industry. A certificates presentation ceremony was held for the students this afternoon at The Garden's Veranda.
Handing over the certificates was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The trainess were given practical training in planting rice for two consecutive seasons and demonstrated a keen desire for success. Several trainees also submitted their business plan and will move on to start their respective businesses. A number of companies have already been established, namely AgroZid Company and Golden Green which will start the process of planting and producing rice. Another company, Econic Farm will enter a joint venture with a local company to produce organic fertilizer.
The programme which is conducted by Brunei Shell Pertoleum Sdn Berhad (BSP) through Shell LiveWIRE Brunei aims to provide young, future agropreneurs with adequate technical knowledge in rice farming and develop agropreneurial skill as well as funds to support the scheme. This is achieved through developing conducive infrastructure for an effective rice production training programme with support from modern and green technology on water and crop management, and guidance from experienced and competent instructors.
