A male permanent resident was detained by the Royal Brunei Police Force through the Tutong Police Station for allegedly being involved in cable theft in several areas in Tutong District. According to Assistant Superintendent Shamsul Ariffin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Criminal Investigation Officer, Tutong Police District, during the arrest, the police also found some tools used for the activity.
The 36 year old suspect was detained by the on duty police while he was digging out the cables at one of the electrical poles in the Telisai Tutong Highway area. A number of equipment used in the cable theft was also seized as evidence in the investigation paper. The suspect was then brought to the Tutong Police Station with the evidence for further investigation. Theft can be charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 22, whereby the penalty is imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or a fine or both, and under Section 427 for damaging property which carries a sentence of imprisonment of not more than 5 years and caning or both.
