The Ministry of Defence is preparing a new defence white paper or updates on the previous defence white paper that outlines the defence principles and strategy and the RBAF's latest development capability plan. According to the Second Minister of Defence, the defence white paper is vital in ensuring the national defence policy can handle current and future challenges.
Yang Berhormat said the defence white paper will be published by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces' Diamond Jubilee next year, which is significant and also in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021. In line with its name, the defence white paper, functions in enhancing transparency as well as the society's understanding towards the importance of national defence and security. At the same time it invites society to shoulder the same responsibility in defending the country against security threats. The minister is confident that the defence white paper currently being completed will enable the Ministry of Defence to be more focused and stronger in facing current and future challenges, building expert capabilities and integrity of the Armed Forces. Aside from that, it also can draft the direction, role and contribution of the Ministry of Defence at the national and international levels holistically.
