His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning made an unscheduled visit to the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and its departments at Jalan Menteri Besar. Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. Also present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy.
Among the sections visited by His Majesty was the Mini Tender Board Secretariat, Quotation Committee and the Internal Audit Unit. The Internal Audit Unit is responsible of updating financial and organisation management within the ministry and its departments.
The Wildlife Section was also under the Monarch's scrutiny. The establishment of this section on the 28th of November 2012 aims to realise the country's aspiration of not only being rich with oil and gas, but also rich with flora and fauna for the current and future generation.
His Majesty then took a closer look at the Biosecurity Division, Department of Agriculture and Agrifood that was established in 2012. The section is responsible for implementing market access activities for marketing agriculture and agrifood products at local and overseas markets.
Among the missions of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism is to accelerate the growth in output of primary resources and tourism sectors that will become a significant contributor to the Gross Domestic Product.
His Majesty also took a closer look at the sections and units under the Forestry Department. The Forestry Department is committed to continue increase forestry output and contribute to the country's economy, apart from protecting the country's forest resources through sustainable forest management.
The Forestry Department underlines several strategic objectives in carrying out its mission and vision. This includes increasing the productivity of primary industry by using high technology and best practices while ensuring environmental sustainability and sustainable timber resources for the timber industry.
His Majesty then visited the Tourism Development Department. The department's vision is towards a sustainable growth and increase in the number of tourists that would contribute significantly to the growth of economic activities which is related to tourism.
Through the Strategic Plan 2016-2020, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism carries out its vision namely towards rapid growth in the output of Primary Resources and Tourism sectors, contributing to the economic growth hence the Wawasan Brunei 2035.
The Ministry emphasises on 4 main cores namely growth, productivity, export and sustainability.
To achieve the 2016-2020 target and trajectory, the ministry through its related departments will focus on several main industries namely broiler industry, vegetable industry, cut-flower industry, agrifood industry, aquaculture industry, seafood processing industry, downstream industry and value added forestry.
His Majesty's presence ensures that the Ministry of Primary Resources are attentive towards issues that are faced by the government, apart from striving to achieve the ministry's mission and vision.
