An attempt to smuggle drugs into the country was successfully foiled. A local Chinese man, aged 36 was detained at the Sungai Tujoh Customs Control Post, Kuala Belait, yesterday.
During the arrest and inspection on the suspect's car, the Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB found a plastic package containing powdered as well as crystalized substances believed to be Ketamine weighing more than 50 grams with estimated value of 2,500 dollars.
The case is investigated under Section 5 of Misuse of Drugs Acts, MDA, Chapter 27, for importation and exportation of controlled drug to and from Brunei Darussalam that carries a minimum penalty of 5 years of imprisonment and 5 strokes and maximum penalty of 30 years of imprisonment and 15 strokes and, Section 6 bracket B of MDA, Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of 20,000 dollars or both.
