The defence bilateral relation between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia continues to strengthen with a working visit by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence to Tawau, Sabah. The visit under the invitation of Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, Malaysian Defence Minister provided an opportunity for the Brunei Darussalam delegation to see how the Malaysian Armed Forces monitors, protects and safeguards national waters against any form of transnational security challenge particularly within maritime areas of Sabah, Malaysia and southern Philippines.
During the working visit, Yang Berhormat Pehin and delegation were briefed by the Commander of Joint Task Force 2, Brigadier General Johari bin Mohd Jaafar at the Joint Task Force 2 Headquarters, Kukusan Camp, Tawau. The delegation was then taken to a number of military facilities and strategic installations around the east coast of Sabah, including the Tun Sharifah Rodziah Forward Sea Basing.
During the visit, both Ministers also exchanged views and information on a range of current security issues, highlighting the growing importance of working closely together to address these challenges.
Also joining the delegation was Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Also present were Tan Sri Dato 'Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang, Chief of Malaysian Armed Forces; Admiral Datuk Mohd Reza bin Mohd Sany, Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy, Lieutenant General Dato' Suhaimi bin Hj Mohd Zuki, Joint Force Commander; and Ahmad Nadzri bin Mohd Hassan, Deputy Secretary General for Policy.
