HIs Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda stresses the importance of reading Al-Quran and making it a regular practice of the country's citizens and residents, especially among the youth as the blessings are huge. His Royal Highness adds this is very important, particularly in the current era of globalisation that has managed to change the way people think, ideology and culture including bringing various negative foreign elements. The greatness of Al-Quran, adds the Crown Prince, has been proven in the context of education as a strong foundation towards building human civilisation in aspects of the worldly and Hereafter. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the opening of the Final of the National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults 1441 Hijrah/2020 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, 28th January night.
Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Chairman of the National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults 1441 Hijrah/2020 Executive Committee; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua Adat Istiadat Negara; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, State Mufti; Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Awang Besar, Chief Syar'ie Judge; and Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs as members of the National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults 1441 Hijrah/2020 Executive Committee as well as other Executive Committee members.
The ceremony commenced with the mass recital of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.
The Minister of Religious Affairs in his welcoming remarks touched on the Tarannum Al-Quran Basic Course for selected students under the Tilawah Al-Quran Youth Scheme or STAR, where it involved overseas teaching staff for the very first time to teach local qari and qariah. The Minister of Religious Affairs said this is one of the ministry's efforts to motivate the students by providing exposure, knowledge and skills from overseas Al-Quran experts.
In his sabda, His Royal Highness stressed that reading Al-Quran should be made a regular practice by the country's citizens and residents, especially among the youth. This is because reading Al-Quran is the most important zikir.
His Royal Highness in his sabda also said that the family institution also plays an important role in together strengthening further the objective of monitoring the skills and regularity of reading Al-quran in a formal way.
On the first night of the National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults, 4 participants presented their readings. The first two participants were Awang Muhammad bin Ali and Dayangku Amal Zahirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri.
The function was enlivened with an Al-Quran reading presentation by invited Qari from Malaysia, Che Yahaya bin Daud, champion of the International Tilawah Al-Quran in Kuala Lumpur in 1999.
Two other participants, Awang Muhammad Zul-Hafiz bin Awang Tengah and Doctor Dayang Hajah Siti Wardah binti Retired Major Haji Abdul Rahman presented their readings.
The ceremony ended with the reading of Sayyidul Istighfar by 30 students from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute.
This year's Musabaqah theme 'Menjana Keberkatan Rezeki dengan Al-Quran' or Generate Blessed Sustenance with Al-Quran, stressed that Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala is the giver of sustenance, commanding His servants to strive in obtaining sustenance using the right and blessed path so that what has been gained comes with blessings.
The 3-nightly National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults has entered its 62nd year. Organised every year by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Musabaqah is to select the country's representative at the International Tilawah Al-Quran Musabaqah in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which will be held on the 6th until the 11th of April.
