Opening Ceremony of Formation of the Centre for Elderly Activities

Penghulu mukim and village chiefs play an important role in providing support and cooperation, to encourage senior citizens to actively conduct their daily programmes and activities within the community. However, social and development services are involved in strategic collaboration between government agencies, non-government organisations and local communities. Speaking during the opening of the formation of the Centre for Elderly Activities, this morning, Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu, Member of the Legislative Council as Temporary Manager of the PKWE Temburong Administration Committee said so far, fifty-five members are registered comprised of senior citizens from Mukim Bokok.

It was officiated by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Community Development Department (JAPEM) in collaboration with Temburong Centre for Elderly Activities has established the Centre for Elderly Activities (PKWE), located at the Bumiputera Main Complex Building, Bangar Town, Temburong.

The ceremony was enlivened with traditional dance of the Lun Bawang ethnic community of Temburong District and kelupis making competition for senior citizens from the four districts and the exhibitions that saw various activities conducted by the senior citizens of Temburong District.The formation of Temburong District Elderly Activities Centre will be able to meet the needs of the senior citizens to continue to be actively involved, by engaging in various activities and programmes suitable for the elderly.
