Brunei Darussalam will be hosting the 39th ASEAN Tourism Forum 2020 this January. The forum chaired by Tourism Development Department carries the theme "ASEAN - Together Towards a Next Generation of Travel". The ASEAN Tourism Forum, ATF has 2 components. Firstly, the official meetings; namely ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meetings, ASEAN National Tourism Organisations Meetings and other associated Meetings that will take place from the 12th to 16th January 2020. Secondly, TRAVEX which will be held for 3-day, starting the 14th of January.
TRAVEX is a platform for the selling and buying of regional and individual tourism products of each ASEAN member state. This is a specialised event, which aims to provide convenient business-matching opportunities for suppliers of tourism products and services in ASEAN and for international buyers to meet and foster business relationships. The ATF 2020 is expected to receive about 800 delegates consisting of Ministers and Senior Officials, Exhibitors, Buyers and Media. The ATF will be participated by 263 ASEAN exhibitors and attended by 144 international buyers and covered by 68 domestic and international media. The official meeting venue will be at The Empire Brunei, while TRAVEX venue will be held at Bridex Hall in Jerudong.
In preparation, the Tourism Development Department with the collaboration of SEAMEO VOCTECH, Institute of Brunei Technical Education and the Brunei Association of Hotels conducted customer service training titled 'Service Excellence in Hospitality / Food Service Industry' for restaurant operators for two months that commenced from August this year. The training provided a foundation for a better customer service that includes improved skills and attitudes and better communication skills to prepare them to receive foreign delegates of ATF 2020. The annual event involves all the tourism industry sectors from 10 ASEAN member states. The next ATF will be hosted by Cambodia in 2021.
