Two locals were sentenced after found guilty for offences under the Excise Order 2006. 41-year-old, Rosyakasimah Binti Abdullah was fined by Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court to 10,000 dollars or 10 months imprisonment.
For the first offence, she was handed a fine of 5,000 dollars or 5 months imprisonment. The accused was found guilty of possessing 60 packets of cigarettes of various brands on the 13th of June. For the second offence, she was also fined 5,000 dollars or 5 months imprisonment for possessing 38 packets of cigarettes of various brand on last Tuesday. She was detained at the Bus Terminal in the capital. The accused was given until the 31st of May 2020 to settle the fine. All contrabands were confiscated to be destroyed.
Meanwhile, 48-year-old Haji Zakaria Bin Haji Ahmad is facing a fine of 7,360 dollars or 7 months imprisonment in default. The Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court read the sentence after the accused was found guilty for possessing 10 cartons of cigarettes of various brand in a vehicle at Sungai Tujoh Customs Control Post. He was detained on the 25th of November. He was ordered to pay an instalment of 300 dollars every month starting end of this month. All contrabands were confiscated to be destroyed.
