Launch of ‘Kayuhan Basikal’ Brunei December Festival 2019

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning officiated the launch of Brunei December Festival BDF 2019 and joined 'Kayuhan Basikal Brunei December Festival 2019' the festival's cycling event around Bandar Seri Begawan. The cycling programme began and ended at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien.

Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism as Chairman of Brunei Darussalam Tourism Board and other Cabinet Ministers. Also present were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al- Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.

Shortly after the arrival, His Majesty officiated the BRUNEI DECEMBER FESTIVAL 2019. His Majesty then received a Pesambah from the Brunei December Festival 2019 Committee members. After that His Majesty launched the cycling event 'Kayuhan Brunei December Festival 2019' and then led the 11.5 kilometre bicycle ride along several main roads in the capital.

The recreational event that attracted many participants from among the country's citizens and residents and coincided with the Bandarku Ceria Programme further enhanced the colourful atmosphere of Bandar Seri Begawan. The Kayuhan Basikal was also participated by Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries and the public including foreign visitors.

The bicycle riders cycled along Jalan Pretty, Jalan Elizabeth Dua, Jalan Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddien, Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Sekolah, Jalan Kumbang Pasang, Jalan Gadong, Jalan Perdana Menteri and Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha before stopping at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien. The 'Kayuhan Basikal' continues to shape the country's sporting culture and strengthen unity through the participation of the community towards an active and healthy lifestyle. The presence of His Majesty and members of the Royal Family in the cycling event injects the sporting spirit in a relaxed atmosphere.

His Majesty's presence ahead of more than a thousand cyclists also acts as a platform for the people to perform healthy sport activities with His Majesty. Organising the event not only increases the people's involvement in sports but shapes a sporting nation as well. This is in line with the aspiration of His Majesty's government to produce more healthy citizens to carry on the country's sustainable development.
