The Ministry of Health is continually adopting and innovating relevant practices from high reliability organisations especially those concerning with patient safety. This matter was highlighted by Ministry of Health at the Opening Ceremony of Internal Medicine Symposium 2019. The event was held yesterday morning, at Ministry of Finance and Economy. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, said the on-going initiative currently happening now is the MOH Incident Reporting System. This system is accessible on line and to all staff. This initiative was first started in February this year by the Quality, Governance and Innovation Office with a current implementation coverage of 80% and over 1200 submissions. He added, the overall objectives of the system are to improve patient safety and to promote safety culture.
The symposium offers a platform to gain the latest best-practise clinical guidance from various sub-specialties with particular relevance to our local set-up. This year the theme of the symposium is centred around acute medical emergencies. About two hundreds doctors and nurses participated in the symposium that aimed to encourage and instil the spirit of continuous self-improvement and lifelong learning among the entire workforce, especially healthcare professionals. Also present were Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health; Dr Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Professional at the Ministry of Health and Awang Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Policy and Management at the Ministry of Health.
