A local man, a former employee of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sendirian Berhad, BSP, was charged in the Bandar Seri Begawan's Magistrate's Court yesterday for an offence under Section 12(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131.
The Defendant, Ibrahim bin Abdul Gani, Head of Well Services Operation with BSP was investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for the offence of possession of unexplained property, particularly for maintaining a standard of living above that which is commensurate with his present or past emoluments. If found guilty, the Defendant could be liable to a fine of 30 thousand dollars and imprisonment for 7 years. Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah Anifa Rafiza binti Haji Abdul Ghani, applied for the charge to be read with no plea recorded, while the Defendant asked the Court to give him time to seek legal representation and the Honourable Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman granted a 1-month adjournment. The Defendant was released on court bail in the amount of 10 thousand dollars and the case will be further mentioned on the 16th of next month.
