His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, arrived in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday afternoon to attend the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
Present at Don Mueang Military Air Terminal, Bangkok to welcome His Majesty was His Excellency Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. Also present to greet His Majesty were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; and His Excellency Haji Ismail bin Haji Abdul Manap, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Kingdom of Thailand. His Majesty then boarded a motorcade to a renowned hotel in Bangkok, where His Majesty would be residing throughout the duration of the ASEAN Summit.
Upon arrival at the Hotel, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will be attended by Heads of State and Government of ASEAN, as well as the leaders of ASEAN Dialogue Partners comprising the People's Republic of China; Japan; Republic of India; Republic of Korea; and the United States, as well as representatives from the United Nations. This year's theme of "Advancing Partnership for Sustainability" serves as a fitting platform for ASEAN and dialogue partners to move forward together to create a people-centred community that looks to the future, as well as to promote the "Stability of Things" (SOT) or sustainability in all dimensions.
