The people-to-people ties which are important components of the existing strong ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Sultanate of Oman is further strengthened with the launch of the Omani Publications Corner at the library of Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB yesterday morning. Named as Ibn Al-Thahabi, after a renowned Omani physician, is part of the Sultanate of Oman's efforts to promote the Omani culture in the country.
Present to launch the publications corner was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education. In conjunction with the launch, a framed portrait of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, the Sultan of Oman during a visit to the Sultanate of Oman on the year 1984 was presented to UTB's Library.
His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashil Al-Maskari, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman to the country in his speech said the establishment of the Omani Publications Corners at the four main public universities in Brunei Darussalam, has met one of the Embassy's primary objectives in strengthening people to people relationship through the promotion of Omani and Arabic culture besides the contribution of Omani scholars in enriching various branches of knowledge in the light of the many commonalities shared by Omanis and Bruneians.
Meanwhile, Awang Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Md Taib, Acting Vice Chancellor of UTB said the university's library has more than 33 thousand books and one thousand media units in its collection. He believes the Ibn Al-Thahabi Publications Corner can contribute to the efforts in shaping UTB students into global citizens who are open to new concepts and ideas, have a wide range of interests, appreciative of different cultures, and sensitive to issues affecting the global community.
Also present were His Excellency Jassim Ali Abdullah Al-Obaidli, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Brunei Darussalam; His Excellency Emad bin Abdul Aziz bin Saad Al Muhanna, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam and His Excellency Salah Mubarak Musleh R. Al Mutairi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to Brunei Darussalam.
