His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan, yesterday morning. The bilateral meeting was held at the State Guest House in Tokyo. Accompanying His Majesty was his son, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen. Upon arrival at the State Guest House, His Majesty was greeted by His Excellency Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan. Accompanying His Excellency the Prime Minister of Japan at the meeting were His Excellency Naoki Okada, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary; His Excellency Eiichi Hasegawa, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and Cabinet Public Relations Secretary; Mr. Hayashi Hajime, Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary; and Mr. Takeo Mori, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. Also present during the meeting were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan Bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Awang Haji Shahbudin bin Haji Musa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Japan; Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd. Yunos, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office; and Pengiran Norhashimah Binti Pengiran Mohd Hassan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Politics at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed the close ties and friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan that have long existed, while exchanging views and discussions on regional and international matters specifically in enhancing cooperation in the field of trade; and the ASEAN cooperation. Before departing the State Guest House, His Majesty proceeded for a group photo.
In conjunction with the Enthronement Ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam consented to send a congratulatory message to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, Emperor of Japan and Her Majesty Empress Masako.
In the congratulatory message, His Majesty expressed his pleasure in attending the historic Enthronement Ceremony and believed that Japan will continue to achieve peace and prosperity under the wise reign of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito.
His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri wished for His Majesty the Emperor of Japan; and Her Majesty the Empress of Japan; His Majesty Emperor Emeritus Akihito; and Her Majesty Empress Emerita Michiko; as well as members of the Imperial Family's continued good health and happiness, as well as the continued prosperity of the people of Japan.
His Majesty also consented to send a congratulatory message to His Excellency Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan, the Government and people of Japan on the occasion of the Enthronement of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito as the Emperor of Japan and Her Majesty Empress Masako, on the 22nd October. In the message, His Majesty hopes to continue working with His Excellency in strengthening the valuable relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan and looks forward to the opportunity to strengthen these important ties as bilateral and international partners.
His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri also wish His Excellency Shinzo Abe and Madam Akie Abe on their continued good health and happiness.
