Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China have reaffirmed the excellent bilateral defence ties between the two countries, as well as expressed their commitment for deeper and wider cooperation in various areas including multilateral engagements such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus). This was voiced during a meeting of the Second Minister of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and the Minister of Defence of the People's Republic of China. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof is on an official visit of the Republic on the invitation of His Excellency General Wei Fenghe, Minister of Defence of the People's Republic of China beginning yesterday until the 22nd of the month.
Both ministers also exchanged views on various current security issues and stressed the importance of closer cooperation in addressing the challenges. Also present during the call was His Excellency Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Pahlawan Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdu'r Rahmani bin Dato Paduka Haji Basir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the People's Republic of China. The Second Minister of Defence is also travelling to Wuhan for tomorrow's opening of the 7th International Military Sports Council (CISM). The Ministry of Defence's delegation comprising Retired Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawa Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma'awiah, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Defence; Captain Spry bin Serudi, RBN, Chief of Staff of RBAF; and Haji Muhammad Shahrul Nizzam bin Umar, Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies will also be attending the 9th Beijing Xiangshan Forum 2019 to be held from 20 to 22 October 2019.
