173 New Cases, 2 Clusters Detected, 179 Recovered

173 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed yesterday, bringing the total cases to 11,220. There are 83 additional new cases to 13 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.

Two new clusters have been detected that involved 19 cases. All of the new clusters are accommodation clusters whereby one of it, HHY Construction Cluster is a housing cluster that accommodates the company's employees. Five clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are the Champion 7 - Platform Cluster; 3340 Cluster; 3395 Cluster; 3733 Cluster; and 4944 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 166 clusters. There are 2 import cases recorded yesterday. Both cases arrived from Manila via Royal Brunei Airlines flight BI684 on the 13th of October 2021. 69 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

179 cases have recovered yesterday, taking the total recovered cases to 8,421 cases, with 2,721 cases remaining active. Among the cases, six cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine, ECMO. Twenty One Category 4 cases require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

To date, there are 1,630 positive cases being admitted to isolation centres across the country, of which 43.6 per cent are local citizens and 56.4 per cent are foreigners. In the past 24 hours, 6,254 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the total laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 451,179 tests.
