14th Session of General Conference of ICESCO

COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the structure of the education systems all over the world, whereby resiliency and adaptability has ensured that teaching and learning continues in Brunei Darussalam. This is done through initiatives such as the digital transformation of the country's education system. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education as the Chairperson of the National Commission of Brunei Darussalam for Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, ICESCO, delivered the national statement at the 14th Session of the General Conference of ICESCO. The general conference held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt from the 8th to 9th of December was officiated by His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Pengiran Ahmad Munir @ Pengiran Abd Aziim bin Pengiran Haji Nordin, Chargé D'Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Cairo while delivering the national statement on behalf of the Minister of Education, also explained that the system aspires towards effective remedial learning and comprehensive services to help recover learning losses and improve the overall welfare of learners. He shared the implementation of the Ministry of Education Digital Transformation Plan in the effort towards making digital learning a new norm in the education system with the emphasis on Education Technology, Management Technology and Enabling Policies and Infrastructure. The national statement concluded with the assurance of the commitment of Brunei Darussalam towards ICESCO's continued constructive contribution towards the Islamic world and the development of human civilizations, in achieving cooperation, solidarity, progress and prosperity. The general conference convenes once every three years and aimed to discuss and review the policies, activities and recommendations of ICESCO in the fields of education, science and culture.
