Bandar seri begawan: The Muslim ummah is facing a significant challenge under the influence of liberalism, a phenomenon affecting not only the Malay world but also the broader archipelago. Liberalism is seen as a form of Islamic modernism that traces its roots back to the 19th century. Speaking at the launch of the 14th International Conference on Islam in Malay World, the State Mufti emphasized that liberal Muslims are using various pretexts to reconsider interpretations of religion, including the Al-Qur’an, Al-Hadith, and fiqh. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Datu Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned called for collective action to prevent such groups from succeeding in their attempts to corrupt the Muslim ummah. The launching ceremony took place at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the State Mufti underscored the serious threat posed by Liberal Islam, as it endangers the faith and can lead to heretical beliefs. He stressed the obligation of all parties to remain vigilant and take decisive measures to stop its spread and prevent societal corruption.

The conference featured a premier working paper presentation titled ‘Sumbangan Data Kodilogi Dan Filologi Dalam Kajian Ahli-Sunnah Wal-Jama¡h Di Alam Melayu’, delivered by Dato’ Ayman Al-Aktiti, an Assistant Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia. The event is organized by Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University through the Faculty of Usuluddin, in collaboration with the Academic of Islamic Studies at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia; the Graduate School of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Indonesia; and the College Of Islamic Studies at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand.
