111 New Cases, 1 New Cluster

111 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Brunei Darussalam yesterday, bringing the total number to 5,697. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health stated the matter yesterday afternoon at a media conference on the latest COVID-19 situation at Dewan Al 'Afiah, Ministry of Health.

The Minister of Healt said there are 28 additional new cases to 6 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases. Meanwhile, one new cluster has been detected. These new cluster is the 5214 Cluster that contains 9 new cases. This cluster is as the result of the mass swabbing operation that was jointly conducted with enforcement agencies on the 22nd of September 2021 at Jalan Muara area. Meanwhile, two clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are ABCi Cluster and 535 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 100 clusters.

In the meantime, 74 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection. Meanwhile, 125 cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 3,895 cases, with 1,765 cases remaining active. Among the cases, eight cases are in Category 5 and are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine ECMO. 30 Category 4 cases require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,141 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 321,382 tests.
