The Authority Monetary of Brunei Darussalam, AMBD needs to encourage innovation and competition in the financial sector to promote the country's economic growth. This is because an orderly and stable financial sector is able to attract foreign investors to Brunei Darussalam. While emphasizing the matter at the Seminar in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of AMBD, 2011 - 2021, yesterday mornig, The Minister at The Prime Minister's Office explained that in facing the major changes in the financial sector landscape, AMBD practices risk-based supervision and works proactively with the Financial Industry in joint ventures to ensure financial stability.
In his speech, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd. Daud, as a member of the AMBD Board of Directors also touched on the four main objectives of AMBD namely, achieving and ensuring domestic price stability and ensuring the stability of the financial system by issuing prudent financial regulations and standards; assist in the establishment and operation of an efficient payment system and its monitoring; and fostering and developing a sustainable and progressive financial sector.
Earlier, Dayang Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Badar, AMBD Managing Director emphasized the role of AMBD as the central bank of Brunei Darussalam which is expanding and becoming more complex since its establishment on the 1st of January 2011 due to the rapidly evolving financial landscape. AMBD will also remain committed in carrying out its mandate to ensure monetary and financial stability and grow the country's financial sector.
In a keynote address, Doctor Diwa Guinigundo, former Deputy Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Republic of the Philippines, among others, introduced the concept of GREY RHINOS-LALTU, major issues that are often ignored by policymakers. A seminar titled "AMBD, Our Objectives, Growth and Future" presented by Dayang Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat, Acting Assistant Managing Director, Corporate Development, AMBD was also held. The event was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of AMBD as well as the achievements made since a decade of its establishment. It took place at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong.
